Elections

A general
election for the elective officers of the City shall be held on the first (1st)
Tuesday after the first (1st) Monday in April of each year. These
elections are known as the Annual City Elections.
The Mayor is elected
at the general election for a four (4) year term. Each year at the Annual
City Election, there shall also be elected a Councilman for each Ward of the
City by the qualified voters of each respective Ward. All Councilmen shall
hold office for a term of two (2) years.
The City is
divided in four (4) Wards with two (2) elected Councilmen representing the
respective Ward. The Mayor and Councilmen from the four (4) Wards comprise
the City Council.
The voting
precincts and voter registrations are under the authority of the St Louis
County Board of Election Commissioners.

Mayor
- No person shall be Mayor unless he/she is at least thirty (30) years of
age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the City at the time of
and for two (2) years next preceding his/her election. When two (2) or more
persons shall have an equal number of votes for the office of Mayor, the
matter shall be determined by the Council. A candidate for the office of
Mayor shall pay a filing fee of $50.00 at the time of filing. No person
shall be certified as a candidate for Mayor who shall be in arrears for any
unpaid taxes or city user fees on the last day to file declaration of
candidacy for office.

Councilmen - No person shall be a
Councilman unless he/she is at least twenty-one (21) years of age prior to
taking office, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant of the City
for one (1) year next preceding his/her election, and a resident of the ward
from which he/she is elected six (6) months next preceding his/her election.
Whenever there is a tie in the election of a Councilman, the matter shall be
determined by the Council. A candidate for the office of Councilman shall pay
a filing fee of $25.00 at the time of filing. No person shall be certified as
a candidate for Councilman who shall be in arrears for any unpaid taxes or
city user fees on the last day to file declaration of candidacy for office.

Voter Registration - To register to vote, a person must be 17
1/2 years old at the time of registration and 18 years old on or before the
date of the next election he/she would be voting in. A prospective
voter must also be a U.S. citizen and a resident of St. Louis County.
When registering to vote, a person must present a valid drivers'
license or other form of personal identification containing the applicant's
name and signature. Voter registration is taken at any City Hall, High
School or Library for your convenience. A Certificate of Voter
Registration may be obtained in person or by mailing a request to the
