The City of Overland operates under the Mayor-Council-Administrator form of government since 2008. Under this form of government, the Mayor serves as the Chief Elected official.  The City Council serves at the legislative body and is empowered to pass ordinances and resolutions it deems necessary to the operation of the city and the delivery of services to its residents.

 

The Mayor shall be elected at the general City election and shall be elected for a term of four (4) years, commencing with the election in April, 1998.  Each year at the annual City election, there shall also be elected an Councilman for each Ward of the City by the qualified voters of each respective Ward.  All Councilmen shall hold office for a term of two (2) years and until their successors shall be elected or appointed and qualified
