The Professional Standards Division of the Overland Police Department is the smallest of the three Divisions, however important to the overall operation of the Department. The Director of the Division is Captain Andrew Mackey who has served the Overland Community since 1994.
Professional Standards is responsible for insuring the quality of our service to the people of Overland. To this end Captain Mackey works in collaboration with the Command Staff to review and revise Department Policies and Procedures. Further, quality control is pursued in two major areas: Internal Affairs and Training.
The Internal Affairs section is responsible for the investigation of all complaints made in reference to the general operation of the police department or actions of our employees. All complaints received are investigated as thoroughly as possible. Appropriate disciplinary or corrective action is taken in all cases where improper conduct can be proven. Additional training is then provided to improve services to the community.
Training is a major part of the Overland Police Department. The Training function ensures that all our officers meet the Department of Public Safety, Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements as found in Chapter 590.115,6 RSMO. The police department further trains officers in specialized law enforcement areas of expertise to assure quality service to everyone in the City of Overland.
Our radio dispatchers also receive the required training as enacted by RSMO 650.340 “911 Training and Standards Act”. The goal of the Overland Police Department is not to just meet the minimum requirement for training but to insure the highest possible level of training for all employees by exceeding the required training hours.
